Salman Toor's No Ordinary Love, is now in view at Honolulu Museum of Art in Hawaii through October 8, 2023. This presentation marks Toor's first museum exhibition in the Pacific region. The show features approximately 40 recent paintings and works on paper in the artist’s unique style of contemporary genre painting.
Weaving together contemporary scenes with historical motifs drawn from European, American, and South Asian artistic traditions, Toor’s work tells stories of family life, queer desire, and immigrant experience. No Ordinary Love was organized by and originally exhibited at The Baltimore Museum of Art in 2022; the show subsequently traveled to Tampa Museum of Art in spring 2023, and will continue to the Rose Art Museum, Waltham, MA in December 2023 following its presentation in Honolulu. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog, that includes essays by Asma Naeem, the Baltimore Museum of Art’s Dorothy Wagner Wallis Director, writer Evan Moffitt, as well as a short story by acclaimed author Hanya Yanagihara. This exhibition is supported by Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design
