Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, The Instrument of Troubled Dreams, 2018

The exhibition of the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Prize Winners 2020 presents the work of the Canadian artist duo with a number of large-scale pieces. On view at Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg, Germany through August 14, 2022, the show will travel to Museum Tinguely in Basel, Switzerland in June 2023.

Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller have become known worldwide for their multimedia installations that make words, sounds, and music tangible. The masterful use of acoustic elements in their works creates a new reality: where does reality end and fiction begin? In their captivating narratives, occasionally reminiscent of true crime stories, they effectively subvert rationality in subtle ways, which makes the intangibility and vagueness of our emotional world dominate our perception.
